blue light aims to:

  • Provide an alcohol, drug, violence and smoke free zone.
  • Develop leadership and motivation.
  • Encourage self-esteem.
  • Promote police and youth relations.

Blue Light is a crime reduction initiative that began in 1982, to address the growing problem of youth crime by providing wholesome and well supervised recreational activities for young people. Blue Light's broad range of activities reflects the diverse needs of young people in our communities. Activities include camps, discos, sailing activities, drop-in centres and schools programs. Police and volunteers run Blue Light activities, a successful partnership that reflects support from both police and members of the community.

The success of the programs continue as Blue Light participants are equipped with life skills and are educated about life decisions and consequences while interacting with police at a social level, effectively breaking down the barriers and forming positive relationships.

Blue Light SA has won the Active Australia 1999 Award for best State Club Organisation!

the co-ordinators

Each Blue Light Branch is centrally co-ordinated from the Community Programs Support Branch by the State Co-ordinator, whose role it is to ensure that all Blue Light activities operate within the guidelines and policies set out by the Blue Light Constitution. The State Co-ordinator is responsible for all financial matters, setting policies, guidelines, "trouble-shooting" and providing direction for all Blue Light Branches and campsites.

If you would like to join a Blue Light Branch or become a volunteer, the Blue Light Starter Kit and Supervisors Handbook are available which provides all the information necessary for running Blue Light activities and sets out the responsibilities of Supervisors.
